Srabani bags 3rd bronze in Asian GP; Amiya wins first

Odisha sprint duo Srabani Nanda and Amiya Kumar Mallick bagged three bronze medals in the second leg of the Asian Grand Prix Athletics Series at Pathum Thani in Thailand today. Srabani alone claimed two bronze to increase her individual collection to three medals in the three-leg GP series.

She finished third in women`s 100m sprint, clocking 11.72 secs (she clocked 11.58s in the first leg). Srabani was member of the Indian 4x100m women relay team that also finished third with a timing of 45.33 secs.

Amiya secured his first medal of the series as a member of the Indian 4x100m men’s relay team that finished third with a timing of 39.60 secs. Overall, India bagged 10 medals in the second leg, which included three gold, two silver and five bronze. Indians had claimed eight medals in the first leg held at Bangkok.

Reigning Asian champion shot putter Inderjeet Singh and 800m specialist Jinson Johnson bagged a gold each, while the third gold was grabbed by Asian Games 400m men`s bronze medallist Arokya Rajiv, who notched up his personal best of 45.81secs. Long Jumper Ankit Sharma clinched his second silver medal in the series with an effort of 7.80m (he jumped 7.78m in the first leg).

M Gomathi bagged the silver in the women`s 800m, clocking 2:06:25 (she clocked 2:07.48 in the first leg), while in the women`s 100m hurdles, Gayathri Govindraj won the bronze with a timing of 13.66s.
The 3rd leg will take place at Chanthaburi on June 29.
